Manic Panic hair dye!?

How do I get the color to stay vibrant longer.

I use ultra violet and hot hot pink and after a while my hair turns gray.

Is there a way to get it to last longer without not washing your hair.

I use a color protectant shampoo, but it only helps a little.

try a more red toned dye, like purple haze.

Do you bleach before you use it??? try dyeing bleached hair 1st.

Aye i know the gray look after using ultra violet. I had my hair bleached out white and when it faded i thought it looked silver.

The best thing to do really is to not wash it. As long as you dont gunk your hair up it really doesnt need to be washed every day. I am lucky enough to never get greasy head so i wash once a week. Avoid fancy shampoos and conditioners,

i never use anything other then TRESSemme. I think i spelled that right.

Use less shampoo then you normally do. Most people use way too much. Focus mostly on the scalp area and work quickly. The longer you leave it on the more color you will lose.

I must also mention that the lighter colors of manic panic are the hardest to keep. Ultra violet is one of the worst.

It was pretty obvious to anyone that has used manic panic that you bleached your hair before using the color. Only bleached hair would turn gray after using a temporary hair color.

try using a little salt water in your hair 1st then dry it with the salt water in it then put on the color.leave it on for the max time and add heat while processing to open the hairs cuticle so it Will accept more pigment then let it cool down before you rinse it out .rinse with cold water it will close the hairs cuticle locking in the color then dont shampoo for 48 hrs and wash your hair with cool water.

You want a shampoo and conditioner that is sulfate-free so it won't strip your color. The best is BedHead Superstar shampoo and conditioner. You can buy it in salons or in beauty supply stores like Beauty World. The bottles are pink, but it's a unisex brand (just fyi).

You could try mixing about 1tbsp of the dye with 4oz of shampoo and conditioner each. That way each time you wash it'd work like a color-depositing shampoo, except it's using the same color you used to dye your hair.

I agree with the person above, avoid harsh shampoos with sulfates, etc (clarifying, dandruff, etc) which will strip it.

I know sometimes people with hard water have problems because it's the actual deposits in the water that stay on your hair, and cause the color to look dull. If you have hard water, Sally has some shampoo made specifically to counteract it.
