My hair is naturally blonde but dyed quite a dark permanant red. I want to colour it back to a light blonde but am aware that all the normal off the shelf products will just lighten the red dye to bright orange or pink. How do I DIY red hair back to blonde without ending up looking like a glow stick? I am aware that once the blonde is in that silver toners will be required.

i did the same thing once and i vow to never do it again. i dyed my hair a burgundy type color and i naturally have light blonde hair. i went out and bought a nice-n- easy hair dye that lightens hair. it can't be just any blonde hair dye...check the package to make sure it can lighten any dark color to blonde. then when u dye it it will at first be a light orange like color. after several bleachings with that dye it will eventually go back to blonde. it's very hard to do yourself so i recommend going to a stylist.

you'll likely have to go to a salon to have it professionally stripped and dyed blonde. that's what my sister had to do when she dyed her hair really dark and wanted to get back to her natural blonde.
good luck.

oh wow, don't ever do that again! and, don't try dying it back to blonde yourself. go see a stylist. more then likely they won't be able to get your hair back to the color it was, the first visit. but, i'm sure you'll be good as new by the second visit. you don't ever want to go from blonde to red (been there, done that). it fades REALLY fast, and to a light red/pinky color. just isn't very attractive after a few weeks. your best bet is to go to a brown, then to a red.

you know there is only one way to tell if your a real blonde

If your natural base color is light, there is a chance you can bleach your hair back to blonde, and then use a toner for your desired shade of blonde. There is also a really really good chance you will have orange or bright yellow hair.
If you do take that really big risk and bleach it, your hair is going to be really really dry-at the very least so you will need a hair cut (at least a trim) as soon as you can so my suggestion would be save some money, go to a salon and have them do it right. I think you will be much happier if you wait and have it professionaly done.
