Do i have to lighten my hair for manic panic dye to show?

I'm wondering if i really have to lighten my hair, for manic panic hair dye to show? MY hair is dark brown and I want pink color. I'm not sure if it's safe to lighten my hair, because I have relaxed african american hair. I dont know if it'll break-off or not?(hopefully not) Please help..Thanx (*-* ) %26lt;3

yes you will have to lighten it. maic panic has no lift to the color. another words, it wont turn your hair lighter by itself. you would have to use 40 volume developer with whatever light color or bleach, first.

Depends how dark it is.. if its blonde. obviouslt ur fine.. if ur a brunette itll show.. but blend with ur hair.. if ur black it wont be noticable AT ALL

definitely

I use Punky Colors (another semi-permanent brand) and currently my hair is purple, which was achieved by bleaching it first.

I have naturally dark brown hair also, and usually thick hair survives the best through bleaching

*Pink sounds cool ^_^*

Hi, Most temp vegetable colours will only show as a heen or tint of colour at best over darker hair colours. My hair is dark brown and the bleached parts go neon when I use my Atomic Pink whereas the unbleached parts go a dark burgundy colour. You tend to get the best and most vibrant results when using over light or bleached hair. Perhaps you could use as low a volume bleach as possible and try a test area / strand test on your hair. A guide on using bleach and also hints/tips on getting the best dye results can be seen below:
